Montrose County staff and key stakeholders worked with us to develop and update the county’s hazard mitigation plan that was created in 2009. The county’s plan provides a formal explanation of prevalent hazards within the county and how hazards affect communities differently. The mitigation strategy presented in the plan responds to the known vulnerabilities within each community and provides mitigation action to achieve the greatest reduction of natural hazard risk. A large part of the success for this project was due to engaging local communities and stakeholders through a variety of platforms such as Facebook.
