Dynamic Planning + Science conducted a comprehensive mapping needs assessment for UCSF to evaluate current cartography practices and identify opportunities for improvement. By analyzing stakeholder interviews, survey responses, and existing map samples, we developed actionable recommendations to enhance mapping workflows, improve data management, and implement tailored cartographic resources. This work supports UCSF’s goal of leveraging geospatial data to improve decision-making, operational efficiency, and communication.
- Needs Assessment: Evaluated UCSF’s mapping challenges and opportunities through stakeholder interviews and map catalog analysis.
- Cartographic Resources: Recommended standardized templates, style guides, and a resource library to streamline map production.
- Data Integration: Proposed centralized data management and GIS-business system integration for enhanced operational efficiency.
- Automation and Innovation: Advocated for automated mapping workflows and advanced tools, including GIS-to-Adobe integration, to optimize map production.
- User-Centric Solutions: Emphasized training, governance, and user-friendly mapping tools to support a diverse range of UCSF stakeholders.
