Leveraging the EOC in Kern County

Jurisdictions in Kern County are working together on their multi-jurisdiction hazard mitigation plan. This is a significant undertaking with more than 60 municipalities, special districts, school districts, water districts, and wastewater districts participating in the process.

The process has been smoother thanks to an unexpected BONUS in Kern County— the County’s Emergency Operations Center!

The MJHMP Planning Committee has been meeting to develop the Hazard Mitigation Plan. Attendees were able to use EOC computers to interact with DP+S’s Risk Assessment Mapping Platform to investigate specific critical facility, population, and property vulnerabilities to specific hazards. The EOC space increased interactive ability to participate meaningfully in these large group meetings.

We are looking forward to seeing the results of the Planning Committee’s hard work as we move into drafting the Hazard Mitigation Plan!
